Spaces and permissions

Team wiki permissions without the spreadsheet

Team wiki permissions should take a minute to understand, not a spreadsheet. In Foliosodev a space decides who can see what, and three roles decide what they can do.

Three kinds of space

  • Open: every member of the organisation can read and edit. Your default space is open.
  • Closed: listed in the directory, and people ask for access with one click.
  • Private: invisible to anyone without a grant, apart from organisation admins.

Available on Team and Business.

Every member also gets a personal space of their own where nobody else holds a role, organisation admins included.

Viewer, editor, admin. That's it.

Grant a role on a space to a person or to a whole team. Viewers read, editors write, and admins manage the space and its members. A page can also be made private to its author and the people they invite, even inside a shared space.

Teams are simple groups of members, so granting a space to a team grants it to everyone in it. How many teams you can create depends on your plan:

  • Free 1
  • Pro 1
  • Team 5
  • Business Unlimited

Structure that stays flat

Inside a space, pages go into flat groups and carry tags; there is no folder maze to dig through. Deleted pages wait in a recycle bin for 30 days before they are gone, and space admins can restore anything deleted in their space.

Write it down once. Find it every time after.
